East Bay Kids Calendar: June 13 – 19

We’re in Berlin! Which is my lame excuse for not updating Tidepooler in ages. After two and a half weeks on the East Coast, we landed at Tegel Airport, last Thursday. It’s magical here. I love this city more than any place else on earth. We’re living in a really great apartment right in the center of town. So far we’ve discovered a few fantastic playgrounds — they really are so creative here when it comes to play. Another exciting thing recently happened too. Elodie turned one-year-old! We had a birthday party for her in New York City. Happy birthday Elodie! And have a great week all y’all in California. We miss you!

East Bay Kids Calendar: May 16 – 22, 2011

After a long day of traveling, we made it to Rhode Island! Elodie loved the butterfly installation in the Kids’ Zone at SFO. We flew American Airlines, so we got to check out the new terminal, which was nice. Airports that include children’s play areas are smart. This was our first time traveling with Elodie since she’s been crawling. Previously she would sleep the entire flight, but this time, we had to keep her entertained for long stretches. I packed a ton of toys and books, some new ones and some of her long time favorites, though I do think I kind of overdid it. We didn’t get to three quarters of them. Oh well… Better to be over prepared than under prepared. Saturday, we drive up to Vermont. Any tips for long car rides? Here’s this week’s calendar of kid-friendly events in the East Bay.

East Bay Kids Calendar: May 2 – 8, 2011

The weather has been amazing in the Bay Area. We’ve continued our long walks, and have been spending time at the playground at Live Oak Park before the Thursday Farmer’s Market in Berkeley. It’s a great spot for babies and we always make new friends there. Only two more weeks until we head east for the summer! Visiting lots of family in New York and New England before heading to Berlin. I’m sooo excited! Though we won’t be able to take advantage of all the fun things to do this summer in the East Bay, I’ll be sure to keep posting the calender each week.

East Bay Kids Calendar: April 11-17, 2011

We made it to the postnatal yoga class at Square One Yoga last week. Elodie is the oldest baby in the group, and the only one not cooing peacefully on her back at the top of mommy’s mat. I make a barrier with yoga bolsters that she has fun climbing on and over onto neighboring mats. I’m constantly having to grab her and re-focus her attention on whatever toys we’ve brought along. She did pretty well last week though. As long as she takes a little nap before class she’s good to go! And I was feeling sore the next day, which is a good thing. This week I’ve added a few art gallery openings to the calendar. Babies love art! And moms and dads get to be social and drink wine. And of course look at art. How was your week?

East Bay Kids Calendar: April 4 – 10, 2011

Last week was fun! We went to the Cesar Chavez Celebration at the Berkeley Farmers’ Market and saw Aztec and capoeira dancing (why does capoeira dancing make me emotional?) and we got a free pound of apples for filling out a survey. The thing about the Tuesday farmers’ market in Berkeley is the concrete is all bumpy and hard to maneuver a stroller on — so maybe it’s not the best one for babies. Though there is a green area nearby, it’s not as central as the green strip that runs through the Thursday market in North Berkeley, which we also hit up. There are so many kids there. We met a baby named Hannah who was a couple months younger than Elodie, but about the same size. They were so cute together. We’re looking forward to all the exciting things happening this week in the East Bay! Did you guys do anything fun with your little ones?

East Bay Kids Calendar: March 29 – April 3, 2011

Elodie and I are always looking for fun things to do with babies in the East Bay. When we’re not trying out the beds at Restoration Hardware (pictured), we’re usually mingling with other crawlers and clappers at the nearby libraries and farmer’s markets. So I’ve decided to post a weekly “East Bay Kids Calendar,” featuring activities for babies and toddlers in Berkeley, Oakland, and beyond! Now every time I’m wondering what we’ll do for fun, I’ll just take a look at the calendar! It includes lots of storytimes, postnatal yoga classes, farmers markets that are especially fun for kids, and special events. I’m really looking forward to the Cesar Chavez celebration tomorrow!
